Bukowski fans will greatly enjoy this novel, however for first time Bukowski readers I would reccommend "Ham on Rye. I bought this book because I had recently seen the movie version of it. I also am a Bukowski fan. I wanted to compare the book to the movie. It is a little different, but the movie stuck by the book fairly well. The condition of this book was brand new, which is nice, since I take care of my books. This book will definately be a part of my permanent collection.
A good read on par with "Ham on Rye" Bukowski is no Dylan Thomas but his minamilist style works when the marginal existence of an alcoholic is the theme. There is a very thin plot as he haplessly goes from one menial job to another. If you love Bukowski's intelligently crass satire this is the book for you. Henry Chinaski is a character you'll love to hate and oddly can't help rooting for.
