The Medical Simulation Training Center MSTC officially opened on May 31, and is the first of 20 facilities of its kind established Army-wide that addresses the requirement of providing sustainment and enhancement training for the Military Occupation Specialty of Combat Medic 68W series in a performance-oriented setting.
The MSTC provides realistic, state-of-the-art training to aid the students in gaining proficiency in treating all areas of trauma and basic medical treatments. Students will receive this training through classroom instruction, basic skills training and the use of trauma and medical lane training.
The functional skills developed during course work are demonstrated during a final simulated battlefield environment, exposing students to different scenarios and situations that they could possibly experience in a combat situation.
Our staff will assist in the setup and validation upon request of the command, or fill the role as the host facility. The primary focus in the classroom and on practical application is treatment for severe bleeding, performing a needle chest decompression for a Tension Pneumothorax and airway management with the use of a Nasopharyngeal NPA. These skills will be transferable for those providing additional basic assistance to the Combat Medic as needed.
Delayed Evacuation Casualty Management DECM : This 5-day course covers didactic and hands on practical exercises covering lethal triad, critical care casualty monitoring, fresh whole blood administration, ventilator management, and wound care techniques.
Medical providers will learn about the walking blood bank program and learn about casualty sustainment considerations when evacuation is delayed in a near peer environment.
This course satisfies the requirements for all CPR skills needed. The two day course will consists of didactic and hands on skills training that will refresh and standardize the standard of care required from care under fire through tactical evacuation. Skills reviewed are the standard skillset of a 68W Combat Medic.
Students will be required to pass a multiple choice written test and three immersive scenario trauma lanes. Casualty Response Training for Leaders CRTL : This 1-day course focuses on training leaders in the development of battle drills for executing casualty response and includes contingency planning, scene security, casualty collection point CCP establishment, aid and litter team control, sensitive item collection, personnel accountability, helicopter landing zone establishment, and nine-line medical evacuation MEDEVAC request submission.
During the course, leaders are exposed to scenarios commonly encountered in theatre e. Advances in TC3 have dramatically increased casualty survival. This is especially true when all members of combat units — not just medics - are trained in TC3.
The MSTC can facilitate medical tasks difficult to teach in your area of operation or introduce casualty response scenarios into a collective task.
