The city is home to a band of brothers born to defend their race: the warrior vampires of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Now back in the Brotherhood - and unrecognisable as the vampire leader he once was - Tohrment is physically emaciated and heartbroken beyond despair. When he begins to see his beloved in his dreams - trapped in a cold, isolating netherworld - Tohr turns to a self-serving fallen angel in hopes of saving the one he has lost.

When he's told he must learn to love another to free his former mate, Tohr knows they are all doomed. Except then a female with a shadowed history begins to get through to him. Against the backdrop of the raging war with the lessers, and with a new clan of vampires vying for the Blind King's throne, Tohr struggles between the buried past, and a very hot, passion-filled future.

About J. Ward After graduating from law school J. Ward began working in health care in Boston and spent many years as chief of staff for one of the premier academic medical centres in the US. She lives in Kentucky with her husband.

Rating details. While this novel mainly concerns the story of Tohr and No'One, there are, as usual, several subplots: Xcor, Throe and the Band of Bastards set out to ingratiate themselves with the glymera and plot to kill the Blind King, Wrath; there is trouble in paradise when John Matthew finds hehas a problem with Xhex fighting lessers; while Blay and Saxton appear to be a couple, things are not over between him and Qhuinn; the Chosen Layla and Qhuinn take a surprising step; and Xhex and No'One get some quality time together.

The main story is mostly narrated by Tohr, whose murdered shellan, Wellsie, is stuck in the In Between, and can only be freed, according to that most unlikely of angels, Lassiter, if Tohr takes up with No'One.

Ward writes this instalment in seasons, as the events that surround the Black Dagger Brotherhood over a year. Once again, the plot is original, with several twists to keep it interesting. The world Ward has created is certainly an enthralling one that she comprehensively supports with plenty of information about what, who and how.

Ward develops her characters so well that the reader is bound to invest some emotion. In this book, the interesting concept of the females' needing is explored. The final pages set up the next instalment, Lover At Last, the eagerly-awaited story of Blay and Qhuinn.

This series is surprisingly addictive. Source: I borrowed a copy of this book. This is the tenth book in the 'Black Dagger Brotherhood' series. Tohrment is still grieving over the deaths of his shellan Wellsie, and his unborn son, and he has no intentions of ever forgetting about them or replacing them. It is only when he's told by the angel Lassiter that Wellsie and his young have not passed into the fade as they should have, that Tohr begins to make a point of supposedly moving on.

Tohr makes a show of moving on with Autumn previously named No'One , who is Xhex's mother. Is he really ready to let go of his past though? Will he ever truly let go over Wellsie and his son? And is Autumn ready to move on too? I enjoyed this book, but I'm beginning to lose interest in the storyline other than the romance angle. Things are starting to get seriously convoluted in this series, everyone seems to be doing everyone else, it's starting to feel almost incestuous.

For instance, in this book we have Tohr and Autumn - no relation between them, until you consider that John is basically Tohr's adopted son, and he is married to Autumn's daughter Xhex. Thus, Tohr is doing his son's wife's mother. Like I've said, there's no genetic relation between them, but it just al feels a bit like inbreeding.

In the first books of this series we had lots of new blood to the mansion - Beth okay, she was Darius's daughter but she was new to the brotherhood , Mary, Bella, Jane, and even Butch, but now it almost seems like the author is grasping at straws trying to find a pairing! How long will it be before she's pairing up the doggen and the young just for new romance? Other than this, I liked the romance in this book. I did find it a little difficult that Tohr was expected to move on quite so forcefully, but I suppose he needed a little guidance.

I did find the relationship to be a little forced and strange though. Ward is a master at sex scenes that leave you hot and bothered, and this wasn't a problem, it was more the relationship outside of the sex that was a bit odd. As for the rest of the storyline, I'm getting really fed up with it.

There are so many warriors about that I don't remember who half of them are, and I can't be bothered to read back and work it out. It's just getting old I'm afraid. Overall; I liked the sexy parts of this book, but the rest of the storyline was only okay. Book ratings by Goodreads. Goodreads is the world's largest site for readers with over 50 million reviews. REVIEW: Lover Reborn by J. R. Ward

RSS Feeds. Ever since Tohrment returned to the Brotherhood compound, he has been living half a life. Even though he has been able to recover to some extent, he is still deeply grieving the loss of his beloved shellan , Wellsie. Every night Tohr fights like he has a death-wish, and he continues to refuse blood, making him weaker by the day.
