FOREWORD It gives me great pleasure in writing this foreword for the second edition of the book Textbook of Endodontics which is quite popular among the undergraduate and postgraduate students across the globe. The first edition of this book has proved to be a best seller largely due to emergence as comprehensive textbook on the subject of endodontics when there was actual need for the same.
The hallmark of this book is an extensive picture-wise coverage of the vast subject of endodontics in accordance with syllabus of Dental Council of India. When going through the pages of this book, I found that authors have made sincere attempt to present a concise panorama of various aspects of endodontics.
I am sure that owing to its umpteen illustrations, clinical photographs, simple language and in-depth explanation of every aspect of subject including the recent advances, this book is definitely appropriate for a thorough knowledge in the field of endodontics. This edition deserves a hearty congratulations for all the efforts and hard work, the authors have undertaken. I am sure that this book will guide the students in gaining an insight into the vast field of endodontics.
This has been possible due to overwhelming response given by students and teachers to the first edition of the book and its reprints. So, a very big thanks to all of them. This has encouraged us to revise, reorganize and update the book and present it to you in the form of second edition. The new edition has been updated by adding nine new chapters, keeping in mind the present scenario and the curriculum of all universities. The new chapters are on rationale of endodontics, tissue engineering, geriatric endodontics, magnification, etc.
Many of the old chapters have been revised and upgraded in view of latest developments and researches happening in the field of endodontics. A lot of new illustrations, radiographs, tables and flow charts have been added so as to have a clear understanding and grasp of the subject. In this edition, self-assessment questions have been added at the end of each chapter to increase the utility for students appearing in university examination.
Also, the bibliography has been added at the end of chapter for referring the main articles in that area. We would like to thank all our contributors and supporters who helped us in improving the first edition of the book in more refined form along with extensive details of the subject.
We are also thankful to Mr Shammi Gambhir and his company, Unicorn Denmart for providing us photographs of loupes and endomicroscopes. We would like to thank Dr Vishal Juneja for providing us radiographs for better presentation of the text. Last but not the least, we are thankful to the students of this country, who appreciated our previous textbooks, Textbook of Operative Dentistry and Review of Endodontics and Operative Dentistry.
Please send us reviews and suggestions to incorporate in further edition of this book to make it more student friendly. Nisha Garg drnishagarg1 gmail. Endodontics being no exception. However, during both our graduation as well as postgraduation we always felt the need for a book which would help us to revise and update our knowledge. When we were doing undergraduation, there were no Indian authored books on Endodontics. We were thus motivated to frame a specialized, precise, concise, easy to read and remember yet, up-to-date Textbook of Endodontics.
The line diagrams are in an expressive interpretation of endodontic procedures, which are worked upon and simplified to render them more comprehensive and comparable with real photographs. These illustrations around are easy to remember and reproduce during examinations. Emphasis is laid upon the language which is simple, understandable and exclusively designed for undergraduates, postgraduates, general practitioners and teachers in the field.
It took us more than three years to accomplish the arduous task of writing this book. This thrust for knowledge led us to link everywhere, where we could medline journals, books and more.
Nevertheless, a never-ending approach and internal craving of mind and soul finally resulted in publication of this book. God perhaps gave us some ability and showered His light on us, guiding us for this task. Till the last week before the publication of this book, we were frantically looking for loopholes, missing information and any important updates we might have missed out.
To the best of our knowledge, we did everything we could. But for knowledge, one life is not enough. The sky is the limit. We await the response of this first edition, which would improve us in the next editions to come. Nisha Garg Amit Garg 9. Introduction and Scope of Endodontics 1 Nisha Garg 2.
